Dr. Turpin's Visit to MME

Dr. Turpin and his Purdue students came and presented an "Alice in Wonderland" based play on chemistry to the fourth and fifth grade today at MME. They presented a lot of information in an exciting way in a short amount of time. The students really enjoyed learning from them.

Field Trip

On November 16th, we went to the Indiana History Musueum. In fourth grade, we learn all about Indiana's history. The museum touched on all of our fourth grade social studies standards!

Tornado Warning

11-14-11
Well, it certainly was an exciting Monday!  We were in the bathroom from 2:50-4:35! The kiddos did an amazing job!

Electricity Experiments

11-9-11

We did a lot of experiements during our electricity/magnetism unit. The students got to experiment with static electricity, electricity using light bulbs and batteries, and magnets.

Reading Assessments

10-20-11
We changed our way of assessing reading at MME. We now work on reading strategies and vocabulary during the week and then take a quiz over the strategies and vocabulary on Friday. In addition, we take a quiz over a short story that is on gradelevel that incorporatates the vocabulary. The short story is a "cold read" to give us accuarte data on how our kiddos are doing at gradelevel.

Math Workshops

10-12-11
Below are pictures from October during math workshop. The students are doing a variety of different activities including domino math, successmaker, eno board, independent seat work, and meeting with me!

Root Beer Floats

10-7-11
WOW! It has been a long time since I posted on my blog! I will do better! Below are pictures of our root beer float party. The students in room 19 earned floats for their good behavior! :)

Reading Response Journal-

During Daily 5, the students are working on a "Reading Response Journal". Right now they are just working on writing the first paragraph of the journal which is a summary of what they have been reading. Eventually, they will also include paragraphs about their reading goals and strategies. The students will have one journal entry due each week. They have assigned due dates so they can plan ahead and have their journal done.

Below are pictures of the students working on their journal.

College

This week is "College GO!" week. We will be discussing going to college throughout the week. Today we discussed the importance of college and having a plan. Even as fourth graders, it is important to have the goal of going to college. A few students had not only the goal, but knew where they wanted to go and what they wanted to be when they went to college!

Below is a  picture of the class holding signs saying, "Hello, my name is _______ and I am going to college!"
